Jim Grogan
Jim Grogan is a Detroit, Michigan wildlife artist specializing in the birds of North America.
He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from College for Creative Studies.
The medium he uses is colored pencils and pastels, concentrating in fine detail and color.
He illustrates his birds realistically but at the same time incorporates a combination of spontaneous linear strokes to make them energetic and life-like.
In his youth, he had the opportunity to be surrounded by nature and found a Robin's nest with blue eggs. Being around this environment gave him inspiration.
Today, he does most of his observation at Belle Isle, and at Kensington Metropark in Michigan, where he sees the birds in their natural habitat. This gives him the chance to precisely render his birds as they really are in nature.
His desire is to use his bird drawings to educate both young and old on the importance of conserving bird species in their natural habitat.
His goals are to show the beauty of these magnificent birds and to record the science of ornithology for future generations.
He cares about birds and wants to share this passion!
